The Wine Review - CH’NG Poh Tiong
The top wines of Bordeaux 2011 Vintage
Domaine de Chevalier Blanc * * * * *
Pale green. The nose is of guavas, grapefruit and mint. Intensity and persistence. Great purity and amazing vitality and length. The JJ Prum of dry white Bordeaux and perhaps the most consistent and impressive producer of dry white Bordeaux.

The Wine Review - CH’NG Poh Tiong
Dom de Chevalier (Julia Harding) : 17
Lovely ripe lemon fruit on the nose, touch of spice. Then subtle and more steely than I expected on the palate. More grapefruit. Refined and persistent in a sleek linear style with a sour freshness to the very end. (Julia Harding)

2011 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc: 93-95 (JCL)
2011 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc, Pessac-Leognan, Bordeaux, France
The white wines of Bordeaux are wonderful because they balance concentration with fresh acidity and lovely aromatics and this Domaine de Chevalier Blanc is a perfect example. Full bodied, opulent white that has wonderful depth and layers of flavours. Fantastic wine filled with passion fruit and dragon fruit flavours and great length. Bravo to Olivier Bernard. (93-95)
Domaine de Chevalier blanc 2011 (J. S.) : 99
99. A white that is dense and structured with amazing honey and dried-fruit character. Mango, pineapple and papaya. Chalky undertones from the soil. Full and chewy with a beautiful depth of fruit and intensity. So much going on here. Phenomenal depth of fruit. Why drink grand cru Burgundy ? Better in 2017.

95-97 Domaine de Chevalier (RV)
95-97 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc (Pessac-Léognan). A powerful wine that’s full of wood and ripe tropical-fruit flavors. It also has an intensely mineral structure that powers the wine right through to the concentrated finish. R.V.
This is my wine of the Vintage: 19,5/20 (BBR)
This is my wine of the vintage. Don’t mess about, tell it like it is. Flawless like a perfect diamond. When we look at wines we are always looking for perfect harmony and balance, and rather sadly looking for what’s wrong with a wine, rather than what’s right with it. Is the acidity too high, given the alcohol and weight of fruit? Are the tannins too tough for the amount of fruit? Here, this year, it was too easy. The wine is perfect. The richness of ripe fruit is close to exotic but not flabby because of the delicious balance of acidity and freshness. Heavenly. It’s going to be a nightmare getting any due to the small crop, but if you can, do. Surpasses even the brilliant 2007.

Domaine de Chevalier: 94-95 (WCI)
2011 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc : Enticing layers of citrus, green apple, lemon, lime and spice lead to a fresh and concentrated stone, sweet citrus oil and honeysuckle finish. 94-95 Pts
2011 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc 93-95 (NM)
2011 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc 93-95
A blend of 85% Sauvignon Bland and 15% Semillon, the Domaine de Chevalier Blanc has a very taut bouquet with scents of granite, lemon rind and a touch of white peach and chalk dust. Great focus and intensity although it takes time to unwind. The palate is medium-bodied with a lovely elegant white peach and a drop of wild honey, very good acidity and a caressing, vanilla-tinged finish that shows great length. This is better than the red this year. Tasted April 2012.
DOMAINE DE CHEVALIER BLANC :17,5 (FV)
Domaine de Chevalier Blanc 2011
One of the truly great names of dry White Bordeaux. Chevalier Blanc has a loyal following and is a wine with an amazing ability to age despite being attractive in its youth. 70% Sauvignon Blanc, 30% Semillon aged in one third new oak. Outstanding concentration of white fruits here with exotic notes of pomegranite and passion fruit. Good citric balance gives freshness despite the intensity. There is good zip on the long finish. Score: 17.5
Very high-toned today, with a whiff of talcum powder giving way to bright sweet pea and lime notes. The tightly wound finish lets herb and fleur de sel flecks peek out, but there’s serious length in reserve. J.M.
Domaine de Chevalier 2011 (I. L.) 96p
Tasted twice - last time in n April 2014. Consistent notes. This wine was strong and powerful, lots of acacia flower, apples and citron grass. Great structure, depth and length on the palate, rich, great balance and strong finish. As always an utterly impressive stuff from this property!
