2008 white Chevalier is intensely fruity and well-balanced, revealing hints of tropical fruit, citrus, and vine peaches, as well as outstanding freshness and purity. This fine wine is full-bodied, powerful, and concentrated on the palate with a very mineral aftertaste. The acidity provides an excellent counterpoint to the richness, and contributes to a long, remarkably well-balanced aftertaste.

Robert PARKER, CHEVALIER Blanc 2008 : 92+
Composed of 85% Sauvignon Blanc and 15% Semillon and exhibiting crisp crushed rock, fig, melon and honeysuckle notes, this beautiful but backward white is capable of lasting another 2-3 decades. Rating 92+

Compared to 2006 and 2007, the 2008 dry white wines of Bordeaux are inferior, but that does not mean they are not very good. They do not possess the flesh, power, or richness of the 2006 and 2007, but they reveal precise, intensely aromatic personalities, lighter bodies, and more noticeable acidity. These remain among the world’s most underrated world-class dry white wines. I will provide full tasting notes once they are in bottle, but following are the dry whites I tasted along with their approximate scores. Rating 90-92+

DECANTER, Chevalier Primeur 2008 BLANC : 18
DOMAINE DE CHEVALIER 2008 BLANC: * * * *
Fine pale yellow, fine complexity on the nose, elegant oak fermentation, restrained dry herbs, arresting potential complexity on the palate, but will be welcomingly harmonious early on, think Domaine Leflaive Puligny. Drink 2012-20. (18 points)

The dry white Pessac-Leognan and Graves represent, as a group, the most homogenous wines of the vintage and, overall, the best in quality. The purity of the fruit - very grapefruit/citrussy - and the high acidity are remarkable. The best are also possessed of a fine minerality. As in practically every vintage I can remember, the top three wines are, in alphabetical order, Domaine de Chevalier, Chateau Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion.
Domaine de Chevalier Pessac-Leognan XXXX1/2
Grapefruit, minerals and and some sulphur on the nose. The palate is very pure, linear, fresh, limes, grapefruit and mineral. Nervosite, persistence and length. A thoroughbred from start to finish. Medium-bodied.

This white has weight, along with a lightly waxy edge, but there’s serious zip as well, enlivening the tangerine, white peach, lime and clementine fruit flavors, with a long, enticing finish. –JM

Tasted nine times - last time in September 2011. Consistent notes. Harvest finished on 3rd October (!!), small yield of 27 hl/ha, 3-4 selections in the vineyard, 75% Sauvignon Blanc + 25% Semillon. Very open, incredibly aromatic with lemon and pineapple, incredibly attractive, tasty and smooth, caressing aftertaste. More minerality and more length here. This was magnificent showing!

Tasted ex-chateau and single blind in Southwold. The Domaine de Chevalier Blanc 2008 has an attractive, almost Burgundy-like nose with fine delineation and freshness : touches of beeswax and pressed white flowers. I like the subtle nature of this wine. The palate is well balanced with a citrus, grassy entry, good tension and more intensity than the previous wines in the flight. There is an attractive lime zest note on the finish. Superb. Tasted January 2012.

THE WINE DOCTOR : 17,5 -18,5 -plus- /20
"This is pure, lifted and rich, showing plump pear and stone fruit. It has an elegantly polished character to it, and all seems in total harmony. There is a slightly greener edge to the fruit than is found in some of the bigger wines but I like that. The palate is full, stylish, with delightfully vibrant and lifted fruit notes, and intense and piercing freshness and vivacious acidity. Full of vigour, in combination with midpalate flesh, this is a brilliant effort."

" Puissant, soyeux, fruité, avec une belle trame et une longue finale fraîche, le vin confirme en bouche."
Domaine de Chevalier blanc 2008, Julia Harding : 17.5
Spicy and a little oily on the nose but also fresh citrus and cedar. Marked freshness with tight fresh grapefruit flavours, perhaps just a little reductive but appropriately so at this stage in its evolution. Lovely long tangy finish. 17.5 (Julia Harding)

Note : 18.0
